"Mercury Falling"-StingThis album leans more towards the Soul and RnB side of Sting's american influences than previous jazzier outings. There is also a strong celtic feel lending an air of mystery and Englishness to his music. The songs are as strong as ever with Dominic Miller providing very musical guitar support (as does the whole band).Outstanding tracks: Most of them! Overall: Superb, if not as seminal as Ten Summoners Tales. |

"Thanks To Frank"-Warren CuccurulloThanks to Frank is Warren Cuccurullo's instrumental debut. It is a tip of the hat in recognition of Zappa's influence (Warren played with Zappa and now plays with Duran Duran). Many of the tunes were recorded in 1 take, with no overdubs. Warren makes great use of a Lexicon Jam Man to layer parts as he plays. The band is a power trio (with Vinnie Colaiuta on drums and Nick Beggs and Pino Palladino sharing Bass duties). The music ranges from hip rock grooves to twisted Indian stuff, all with a Zappa twist.Outstanding Tracks: Orgasmatron, Ass Man, Low Speed Chase, Hey Zawinul. Overall: Very Cool. |

"Out Of Nowhere"-Vinnie MooreVinnie Moore was one of the most musical of the 80's shredders (influenced more by Al Di Meola and Steve Morse than Malmsteen). On this album he has found a new passion in his playing, with tunes ranging from Cooking rock riffs to cool Blues, Funk and Country grooves and even emotive acoustic ballads! The newly discovered Hendrix influence pops up all over the album but Vinnie's own style still shines through.Outstanding Tracks: With The Flow, Vinman's Screaming Ale, Am I Only Dreaming. Overall: Happening. |

"Purpendicular"-Deep PurpleSteve Morse injects vibrant guitar into this album by the still great band. The ensemble playing is really good, with great unison lines and riffs between the guitar, keys and bass. Steve Morse 's playing is a very cool mix of Van Halen, Albert Lee and so many other styles! The album sounds fresh but with the kind of feel that only comes through years of experience.Oustanding tracks: Vavoom: Ted the Mechanic, The Aviator, Rosa's Cantina, Somebody Stole My Guitar. Overall: Good Stuff. |
